THE WATER DISH
The dog's water dish is one of the most important things. Like humans, your dog needs an adequate supply of water each and every day. What happens quite often is that the water dish often goes unnoticed or neglected, and the dog ends up either not having fresh water, or the dish goes empty.
A great habit to get into every day is to just simply be aware of the water dish, and take the time to look at it every day. A great suggestion would be to just dump it out each day, and refill it will fresh water. When you take a few minutes to do this you will also notice that there will be less of a chance of the water turning those lovely green colors.
WATER DISHES
If you go to your local pet store, you will find a variety of dishes for food and water. They come in every shape and size you can imagine. They also come in a variety of materials too. I am a big fan of the stainless steel ones, and the biggest reason is that they are the easiest to keep clean and sanitary. If necessary you can scrub them out from time to time with a cleanser very easily too.
WHERE IS THE WATER DISH LOCATED?
It is highly important you are well of aware where the water dish is located. You will find out that it doesn't matter what kind of dish you have. If any dish is located in the direct sunlight, the hot sun could heat the water to temperatures that are well over 100 degrees. This is something you want to be well aware of especially in the late spring and summer months too. If you live in an area that is a hot climate like Las Vegas or Palm Springs you need to be extra aware of the positioning of the dish. Remember too, that stainless steel dish heats up a lot quicker too.
Remember too, that although the dish may be out of the direct sunlight during the earlier months of the summer, later in the summer as the sun changes positions the water dish that was not exposed to the sun may now be exposed. This could be especially detrimental if the dish is metal or stainless steel too.
A great suggestion for any water dish that is kept outside would be to keep it in an area that is always exposed to shade to eliminate any of these problems from occuring.
